Who may join the club?

We run badminton sessions for players of all abilities.

For those seeking coaching to improve their badminton, we run coached sessions on Saturday mornings for school-aged children and for adults - see our Saturdays page.

Our Monday junior sessions cater for players aged 9 to 17 - see our juniors pages.

When do you meet?

Our club sessions are as follows:

Coached sessions

  • School aged children, Saturdays, 9am to 10:30am, Perth High School Sports Hub - the Saturday junior sessions are currently full but we are operating a waiting list so please contact us if you would like to try the sessions.
  • Adults, Saturdays, 10:30am to noon, Perth High School Sports Hub

Partly coached junior sessions

  • Juniors, ages 9 to 17, Mondays, 6:45pm to 7:45pm, Academy of Sport & Wellbeing, UHI Perth - the Monday junior sessions are currently full but we are operating a waiting list so please contact us if you would like to try the sessions.

Adult playing sessions

  • Adult beginners and returners,  Sundays, 10am to noon, Perth High School Sports Hub
  • Adult beginners and returners,  Thursdays, 7pm to 9pm, North Inch Community Campus - the Thursday adult beginners and returners sessions are currently full but we are operating a waiting list so please contact us if you would like to try the sessions.  Also, we do have spaces for our Sunday sessions - see above.
  • Adult intermediate and advanced players, Mondays, 7:45pm to 9:45pm, Academy of Sport & Wellbeing, UHI Perth - the adult intermediate and advanced sessions are currently full but we are operating a waiting list so please contact us if you would like to try the sessions.

Where do you meet?

We meet at UHI Perth on Mondays, North Inch Community Campus on Thursdays and Perth High School Sports Hub on Saturdays/Sundays.   We play most of our local league matches at North Inch Community Campus.  For more information on our venues, see our club sessions page.

How much does it cost?

Our fees are:

  • £2.50 per session for children attending our Monday junior sessions;
  • £6.50 per session for our 2-hour adult sessions, £3.25 for students;
  • £5.00 per session for anyone attending our 90-minute coached Saturday sessions and the fees for each Saturday session are payable in advance.

The cost of hiring the courts and the cost of the shuttles we play with are included in the fees.

If you have difficulty affording the fees, please confidentially discuss your situation with our Treasurer, Ross Paterson, or e-mail him at info@glenearnbadminton.co.uk.   The Club is inclusive and "open to all" and we will seek to ease the cost of participating for those that have difficulty affording our fees.   We will ensure such matters are confidential between you and the Club.

What should I bring?

You should bring suitable attire to play badminton in, including shoes with non-marking soles.

Most of our members bring their own badminton racket but we usually have spare rackets available to use.

We recommend you bring a drink.  While North Inch Community Campus and UHI Perth do have water fountains and also, vending machines that sell drinks, these might not always be available.   Perth High School Sports Hub also has water fountains, but not vending machines.

You do not need to bring shuttlecocks.  The Club provides feather shuttles and the cost is included in the nightly fee.

Can I just turn up?

Existing members can turn up to our sessions and do not need to pre-book.  If you would like to join or visit the club, or just come along to give it try, please contact us before attending any of our sessions.

What are club nights like?

Our weekly club nights are friendly and relatively informal.  We would usually mostly play doubles but occasionally when it is quieter, some of our members enjoy playing singles.

Usually, there is no pre-determined selection of games in advance and so you should get to play with and against various different players of differing abilities.   Although our games can have a competitive edge, the main thing is to have fun!  From time to time, we will hold fun tournaments on a club night.

May I play in league games?

Not all our members wish to play competitively - that is fine, there is no obligation to play in league or cup matches.

For those members that would like to play competitively, team selection is managed by the Club Committee and the team captains. Generally, the strongest available players are selected.  However, there is always some rotation of players over the course of the season meaning many of our  players get the opportunity to play in league or cup matches.

What kind of shuttles do you use?

We use high quality  feather shuttlecocks at all of our adult club nights and also for matches in the Perth & District Badminton Association league and cup competitions.

How can I get further information?
