Are you thinking about joining us?

See our frequently asked questions below and if you have further questions, please do contact us.

Who may join the club?

We welcome adult badminton players of all abilities.  We do not offer formal coaching at the Club and so while most new members have played badminton before, there is no minimum playing standard.   We run sessions for adult beginners and returners.

Our junior sessions cater for players aged 9 to 17 - see our juniors pages.  If you are looking for badminton for children younger than nine or more information on junior badminton, please contact us with your details and we will try to help.

When do you meet?

Our usual sessions are not currently operating due to COVID-19 restrictions.   However, when they are on, they are:

  • Juniors, ages 9 to 17, Mondays, 6:45pm to 7:45pm, Academy of Sport & Wellbeing, Perth College UHI
  • Adult beginners and returners,  Mondays, 6:45pm to 7:45pm, Academy of Sport & Wellbeing, Perth College UHI
  • Main adult session, Mondays, 7:45pm to 9:45pm, Academy of Sport & Wellbeing, Perth College UHI
  • Adult session, Thursdays, 8pm to 9:30pm, North Inch Community Campus, Perth

In the meantime, while COVID-19 restrictions apply, keep an eye on our booking site for special sessions.

Where do you meet?

Our usual sessions are not currently operating due to COVID-19 restrictions.   However, when they are on, on Mondays, we usually meet at Perth College UHI in Perth and on Thursdays, we usually meet at the North Inch Community Campus in Perth.   We play our league matches at Bell's Sports Centre in Perth.  For more information on our venues, see our club nights page.

How much does it cost?

Our fees currently vary for each session.  Prior to COVID, our fees were:

  • £1 per session for primary school aged children attending our junior sessions;
  • £2 per session for older children attending our junior sessions;
  • £3 per session for our adult beginner / returner sessions;
  • £5 per session for our 2-hour adult sessions;
  • £4 per session for our 1.5-hour adult sessions.

For adults attending four or more sessions in a season, a £5 annual membership fee was payable, but otherwise fees are only paid for the sessions you attend.

While COVID-19 restrictions apply, the fee for each of our sessions is shown on our booking site.

The cost of hiring the courts and the cost of the feather shuttles we play with are included in the fees.

What should I bring?

You should bring suitable attire to play badminton in, including shoes with non-marking soles.

Most of our members bring their own badminton racket and, in light of COVID-19, sharing of rackets is not permitted.

We recommend you bring a drink.  While Bell's Sports Centre, North Inch Community Campus and Perth College UHI do have water fountains and also, vending machines that sell drinks, these are generally not available at present due to COVID-19.

You do not need to bring shuttlecocks.  The Club provides feather shuttles and the cost is included in the nightly fee.

Can I just turn up?

As a result of COVID-19, pre booking is essential for all sessions via our booking site.

What are club nights like?

Our weekly club nights are friendly and relatively informal.  We would usually mostly play doubles but occasionally when it is quieter, some of our members enjoy playing singles.  However, given current COVID-19 restrictions, we are only playing singles.

Usually, there is no pre-determined selection of games in advance and so you should get to play with and against various different players of differing abilities.   Although our games can have a competitive edge, the main thing is to have fun!  From time to time, we will hold fun tournaments on a club night.

May I play in league games?

Not all our members wish to play competitively - that is fine, there is no obligation to play in league or cup matches.

For those members that would like to play competitively, team selection is managed by the Club Committee and the team captains. Generally, the strongest available players are selected.  However, there is always some rotation of players over the course of the season meaning many of our  players get the opportunity to play in league or cup matches.

What kind of shuttles do you use?

We use Yonex Aerosensa 20 (speed 3) feather shuttlecocks at all of our club nights and also for matches in the Perth & District Badminton Association league and cup competitions.
